I have an appreciation of water at the end of a challenging day. Sheep have wandered, hens went missing, the tractor stopped in the middle of harrowing and some unwelcome mail arrived.
However, the birds are singing and there laughter from across the fields. It is good to hear other human voices. The air is warm and the sun has set in hues of rose and lilac.
I sit quietly with a candle alight and fairy lights to give a soft glow. A warm bed with soft clean sheets awaits with an exciting novel to read. There will be cocoa to enjoy and the gentle sound of my dog breathing as I prepare to sleep.
I am aware of the gift of water today. Water flowing through the taps in the caravan, through the pipe for the greenhouse and in the yard.
The pipes froze in the winter and there were many days without water flowing. I remember the lack of hot water when we first moved and appreciate my hot bath this evening. Weeks without a working stove cause me to savour the thought of a tasty supper warming in the oven.
The sheep are now quiet, the new lamb is sleeping, the hens are safe, the dogs are asleep. The day continues towards dusk and finally to dark. The stars will appear soon and then a blanket of stillness and peace will descent over the farm.
I open the door of my little caravan and breathe in the night air.
All is well. Another day on Clyngwern Farm comes slowly to an end.
I wish peace and serenity to you all tonight as you take time to appreciate your day.
